Orihime's Japanese father Ogata was an aspiring painter; traveling the world and studying arts he met a beautiful woman named Carino Soletta in Italy. Soletta and Ogata fell in love and concieved a child, that child born on the day of the Tanabata festival was named Orihime. Orihime of the Tanabata legend, was a princess of the heavens who fell in love with and married a cow herder, and eventually her father the ruler of the heavens forced the couple apart, and they could only meet once a year; this was about to become more then just a legend to the young couple. Carino presented her lover to her family, looking for their blessing to be married, but the Soletta family were prideful nobles and did not think that a painter was a good enough match for an aristocrat. Ogata and Carino were forced apart, eventually Ogata returned to Japan to spare them both the heartache of being close by when they could not be together.

Orihime grew up resenting her father, and she projected that on all Japanese men, imagining them to be all like the cruel man in her mind, who abbanonded her and her mother, and caused her mother to cry every night. Orihime eventually was recruited as a member of the Hoshi-gumi, fought in the great war, and became a celebrated actress before the Hoshi-gumi was disbanded. In Taishou 14 Orihime was transfered to the Teikoku Kagekidan Hana-gumi in Tokyo; do to her intense dislike of Japanese men, she immediately clashed with commanding officer Oogami Ichirou. Eventually she met and reconciled with her father, and from that point on her relationship with Oogami improved as well.

In battle Orihime originaly operated the European made Eisenkleid; before upgrading with her teamates to the later model koubu (and eventually the Koubu Kai Type 2). Her mecha are fitted with finger mounted energy weapons which she can control the direction with using her spirit power. Orihime is headstrong, but caring.
