Iris is the daughter of wealthy and aristocratic parents from France. When she was just a young girl she locked away for her safety and the safety of others do to her often uncontrolable telekenetic outbursts. Because of this Iris never really had any friends other then her stuffed animals in particular the one bear she named Jean-Paul.

When Ayame came to recruit Iris to be a member of the Hana-gumi her parents were more then happy to hand her over, knowing that she'd finally be able to learn to control her talents and that she'd be able to make some true friends at last.

Iris has by far the strongest raw spirit power of the Hana-gumi, even surpassing Sakura with her Haja bloodline. Because of this during the Hana-gumi's first battle with the Kuronosukai Wakiji Iris overpowered her Oobu test unit and it was rendered inoperable. further adjustments had to be preformed on her finished Koubu before she was able to go out in battle, and she was the last Hana-gumi member to be put on active status.

Iris is incredibly friendly, and very eager to open up to each other. She is however prone to childlike tantrums, which can be very destructive given her talents. In one extreme example she demolished a whole motion picture house, when she was frightened. She has a special relationship with Reni Milchstraße, after the older girl joined the Hana-gumi they became almost inseperable and Iris has been instrumental in helping Reni learn to emote and over come the trauma she suffered as a result of her experiments.

Iris is naturally the shortest Hana-gumi member, however her actress Kumiko Nishihara is the tallest (where as the tallest Character Kanna is played by the shortest actress); in the Kayou Shows this leads to a number of humorous visual gags, including one where Kanna rode Iris piggyback.

In the TV series, Iris has the same backstory but has a drastically different personality she is completely shy and dosn't know how to react to people, she often asks Jean Paul for his opinion and then uses that to let people know how she is thinking. Sakura tries very hard to break through Iris's barriers but it is a long process. Iris is the character who suffers the biggest personality change in the TV version, even prompting a joke in the manga where they were treated as two different characters the "happy Iris" and the "Sad Iris".
